I'm not a big car person, but I do like taking scenic drives. Who doesn't? One of my favorites routes is Highway One up around Monterey, California, especially 17-Mile Drive. It's wonderful. I can take my time, stop anywhere I want, and see some of the most beautiful views in the entire world everywhere I look. My new song, "Sweet Ride," gives me the same feeling as that drive. The song started with a couple of simple guitar riffs. Those riffs led me to create the overall driving, windows open, road laying out before me vibe I think the song conveys. I didn't start in that place, but when the rest of the song together around those riffs, that was exactly the vibe I got.
Of course, getting out on the open road is a recurring theme in America. Come to think of it, road tripping is really a universal theme, common to all places in one form or another. So, when I set out to create the video to support "Sweet Ride," I chose clips that gave me that open road feel and appealed to my sense of beauty in places like the German countryside, Norway, Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa, Zion National Park in Utah, the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and, of course, 17-Mile Drive in Monterey, California.
Enjoy the ride!
