djSwade Radio August 2022 Spotlight: Emancipator's "Anthem"

In August 2021, I debuted djSwade Radio on Pandora and started featuring my favorite songs in my blog. My only criteria for picking these songs is that I really enjoy them. It doesn't matter to me whether they're old or new as long as they groove.

For August 2022, I've selected "Anthem" by Emancipator.

According to Emancipator's Pandora Artist page, Emancipator is the stage name of Doug Appling, a Portland-based downtempo electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist who has gained an international fan base. Emancipator’s debut album was Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, and in 2009 he made his live debut, opening for Bonobo and touring Japan. He has since produced a number of follow up works, including albums, collaborations and live music. "Anthem" is from Emancipator's debut album. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, an anthem is a song or hymn of praise or gladness. I can definitely hear and feel that with this song. It starts with a basic motif, then progresses steadily with piano/keys as its base. Early on, a lead violin, played by Lapa, joins in, taking the measure of the piece, then soaring into majestic, repeating notes. "Anthem" feels very danceable and I can hear a rap influence. It has a calming influence on me, a dependability that soothes me. It's definitely a go to when I'm blogging or brainstorming. Great tune!

I highly recommend this song. You can hear it on djSwade Radio. You can also click the direct link to the song and artist.
